Tigers Adrienne Binder and Cesar Cielo Earn SEC Swimmers of the Week

Birmingham, Ala. January, 27. THE Tigers swept the first SEC swimming awards of the season as was announced by the Southeastern Conference on Friday afternoon. Junior Adrienne Binder and freshman Cesar Cielo were selected by the weekly honor based on their performances at the Florida
meet on January 21 in Gainesville.

Binder put on a show in the distance events during the No. 2 Tigers 178-120 win over No. 4 Florida. Binder swept the distance events en route to picking up two automatic qualifiers in both the 500 and 1650 free's. Less than 10 minutes after winning the 500 free, Binder went on to swim a season high and improved provisional qualifier (4:15.37) in the 400 IM and finished second behind teammate Lauren Duerk. Her time of 4:43.81 in the 500 free was just 3 seconds off her personal best. Binder helped lead the Auburn team to its seventh dual meet win of the season to remain undefeated.

In just his second collegiate meet, Cielo picked up two individual event wins as he dominated the sprint freestyle events at No. 7 Florida. In both the 50 and 100 free's, he earned improved provisional times from the previous week at Texas. Cielo was also pivotal on the winning 200 medley relay team as he anchored the relay that turned in the best times this season in the SEC. Cielo swam the leadoff on the runner up finishing 400 free relay as well, which secured the Auburn teams ninth consecutive victory this season and extended the Tigers dual meet win streak to 40.
