Dallas Morning News Classic on the Horizon

DALLAS, Texas, January 3. NOW that the holiday season has passed, the collegiate campaign should heat up in a hurry with dual-meet action and invitational gatherings. Included in the mix is the annual Dallas Morning News Classic, held on the campus of Southern Methodist University. The meet annually generates sizzling times, and this year should prove no different.

Scheduled for January 13-14, the competition will be highlighted by the presence of the University of Florida and Northwestern. The Gators, of course, will be led by Ryan Lochte, the multi-talented standout who earned three medals at last summer’s World Championships. As for Northwestern, it is carried by Matt Grevers, the reigning NCAA champ in the 100 backstroke. There’s a chance Lochte and Grevers could clash in the 100 back.

Florida is also fueled by Darian Townsend, a sprint standout expected to score at the NCAA Champs in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles. Bradley Ally, a freshman, will carry the load in the individual medley disciplines. For Northwestern, Kyle Bubolz (sprints/fly) and Mike Alexandrov (breast/I.M.) should produce quality performances.
