Schneider Wants her German Record in 400 I.M. Wiped Out

BERLIN, Germany, December 23. PETRA Schneider, who was one of the leading East German women at the time when doping was a regular occurrence in the country, has indicated that she wants her German record in the 400-meter individual medley to be erased. Schneider spoke of her desire in an interview with a German television station.

The 1980 Olympic gold medalist in the 400 I.M., Schneider recorded her national-record time in 1982 when she clocked in at 4:36.10 during the World Championships in Ecuador. At the same competition, Schneider earned gold in the 200 individual medley.

"My record is only a record of the past. I would like the current record list to be started afresh," Schneider said. "My record was influenced by doping.”
