Hoff, Ziegler Ready to Race in Invitational Action

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland, December 8. SOME of the United States’ top youngsters will be in action this weekend at a pair of invitational meets. The North Baltimore Aquatic Club Christmas Invitational and the Tom Dolan Invitational are set for the weekend and Katie Hoff and Kate Ziegler are the respective headliners. Both teenagers won a pair of individual gold medals at last summer’s World Championships in Montreal. Hoff doubled in the 200 and 400 individual medley races and Ziegler doubled in the 800 and 1,500 freestyles.

At the NBAC Invitational, scheduled for the United States Naval Academy, Hoff is entered in six individuals events and should produce some of the top short-course yards times in the country, marks that will likely rival the efforts produced at next year’s NCAA Championships. As for Ziegler, she’s slated to race a handful of freestyle events at the Tom Dolan Invitational, which will be held at George Mason University.

The NBAC Invitational will also feature Courtney Kalisz, another of Paul Yetter’s teenage phenoms. Kalisz recently excelled at the U.S. Open and is a rising force on the American scene in the individual medley events, 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke. On the male side, Daniel Madwed is scheduled to race a number of events. Madwed could contend for a berth to the Beijing Olympics in the 200 fly.
