Peterson Decides on North Carolina for College Career

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, November 14. ACCORDING to a report on the USA Swimming Web site, Chip Peterson has decided to take his talents to the University of North Carolina. The reigning world champion in the 10K open-water event, Peterson opted for the Tar Heels over Stanford, Michigan and Georgia.

Peterson is a North Carolina resident and decided that staying home was the right call. Aside from being a world-class performer in open-water swimming, Peterson is also a standout in the pool and one of the finest distance performers in the United States. He was third in the 1,500 free and fourth in the 800 free at last year's World Championship Trials.

“I am so glad it is over,” Peterson told USA Swimming's Bob Schaller. “I had a great time with the whole recruiting process. But it’s great and such a relief to finally pick the school.”

In choosing North Carolina, Peterson will be reunited with Catherine Frock Vogt, his former club coach.
