Wisconsin Girls Set Flurry of State Records

By Emily Mason

MADISON, Wisconsin, November 14. OVER the weekend, everyone heard about the Arrowhead girls setting a new national record in the 200 medley relay, but there was more to this meet than that spectacular swim.

The team from Arrowhead in the Division I sector of the meet won every event but the 500 free and set new state records in all three relays. Needless to say the state championship was in the bag.

The 2005 state champions include senior Kylsie Grimes in the 200 and 100 free, clocking in at 1:49.95 and 50.74, and senior Andrea Boritzke in the 200 IM, 2:03.67, and the 100 back, 56.33. Another senior Maggie Zblewski won the 100 fly (56.18) and the 100 breast in a new state record time of 1:03.46. Junior Nicole Landisch won the 50 free in 23.81 and the lone winner not from Arrowhead was Middleton's Cortney Veerman in the 500 free with a 4:59.57.

Division II also produced a number of double winners in its state meet. DeForest's Kelly Winckler won the 200 and 500 free, New Berlin West's Beckie Thompson charged in for the win in both sprint freestyles, hitting the pads in 23.80 in the 50, and Greendale's Jenna Lennertz in the 100 fly and 100 back. Other winners included Grafton's Rachael Hencke in the 100 breast and Grafton's Bailey Nennig in the 200 IM.
