Great Britain Set to Conduct Synchronized Swimming Championships

LONDON, November 2. SEEKING invitations to next year’s Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Great Britain will hold its Synchronized Swimming Championships this weekend. The competition is expected to be the most intense in the country’s history and will be held at the Braunstone Leisure Center. Already, Jenna Randall, Olivia Allison and Hannah Massey have been selected for the Commonwealth Games.

The solo event is expected to be the highlight of the weekend, as Great Britain’s top athletes in the sport are chasing a national title and a trip to Melbourne. Britain has a solid history in synchronized swimming as Gayle Adamson won silver in the solo event at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Adamson also won silver in the duet competition with partner Katie Hooper.

"All of the leading girls will be there competing for a place in the solo event at the Melbourne Games," said Anne Clark, the event director. "Numbers are slightly down as the bar has been raised standard-wise but we'll be looking at a good competition for a place in Melbourne.”
