Dlugonski, former Penn State Standout, is Awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania, October 20. DEIDRE Dlugonski, a former standout at Penn State University, has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Dlugonski is the 40th Penn State student-athlete to receive the honor and the sixth in the past three years. She is also one of the 10 finalists for NCAA Woman of the Year. The award recognizes senior student-athletes in intercollegiate athletics for their outstanding achievements in athletics, academics and community service.

Dlugonski will receive $7,500 for postgraduate study at an institution of her choice. She graduated from Penn State with a 3.96 GPA and was first in her class of 114 in the Department of Kinesiology. The winner of the 2005 NCAA Woman of the Year Award will be announced later this month.

Dlugonski was a nine-time All-American as a Nittany Lion and an Academic All-American. She finished her career with seven Big Ten Conference titles and helped Penn State to a conference record in the 200 medley relay. Dlugonski was a three-year captain and established six school records.
