Qi Hui Posts Swift Time in 400 I.M. at Chinese National Games

SUZHOU, China, October 14. THE first day of the Chinese National Games, a major event in the country that draws many of the top athletes, featured a quick start in the pool, particularly in the women’s 400 individual medley. Clocking a personal-best effort of 4:38.24, Qi Hui took first place in the race, finishing comfortably ahead of Zhang Xin (4:41.73). Yu Rui was third in 4:42.84 and Zheng Xi was fourth with a mark of 4:43.19.

In the other final contested on the first day of action, Zhang Lin secured first place in the men’s 400 freestyle, as his mark of 3:51.32 was more than three seconds clear of Yu Chenglong (3:54.50). As for semifinal action, Zeng Qiliang led the way in the men’s 100 breast, as his 1:02.30 was quicker than the 1:02.51 of Liu Weijia. Meanwhile, Zhou Yafei was swiftest in the semifinals of the women’s 100 butterfly when she touched the wall in 58.59. Zhou was followed by Xu Yanwei (58.97) and Qu Jing (59.10).
