Virginia and Florida Set to Tangle in ACC vs. SEC Showdown

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia, October 13. AS the collegiate season kicks into high gear this weekend, a primetime clash will take place at the University of Virginia’s Aquatic and Fitness Center. The Cavalier men and women, of the Atlantic Coast Conference, will host the University of Florida, representing the Southeastern Conference. The meet is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m.

On the men’s side, Virginia is the seven-time defending champion in the ACC and features the likes of Pat Mellors, the reigning ACC Freshman of the Year, and Fran Crippen, a national-champion distance freestyler. As for Florida, it is led by Ryan Lochte, one of the premier swimmers in the world. Last year, the Gators were second at the SEC Championships and fifth at the NCAA Champs.

On the women’s side, Virginia is coming off a season in which it finished second in the ACC. The Cavaliers rely on backstroker Brielle White and distance standout Rachael Burke. Florida, meanwhile, was third at last year’s SEC Champs and placed fourth at the NCAA Championships. Dana Vollmer, a 2004 Olympian, is expected to make her Florida debut.
