Peirsol to Conduct Clinic at Home of Bozeman Masters

BOZEMAN, Montana, October 1. AARON Peirsol, the world’s premier backstroker, and Bob Bruce, a U.S. Masters Coach of the Year, will lead the USMS Nike Swim Clinic on Saturday, October 15 at the Bozeman Swim Center in Montana. The clinic is scheduled as a four-hour program that will include in-water instruction on stroke technique from Peirsol.

"The clinic is an opportunity of a lifetime,” Peirsol said. “I have always wanted swimming to have an ambassador to travel throughout the United States and excite swimmers, and the community in general, about the great sport that I have dedicated my life to promoting. Now I have that opportunity through Nike's partnership with groups like the Bozeman Masters."

A California native, Peirsol is coming off a summer in which he won three gold medals at the World Championships in Montreal. Peirsol took top honors in the 100 and 200 backstroke events, breaking the world record in the longer distance, and also won gold as a member of the United States 400 medley relay. Earlier in the year, Peirsol broke the world record in the 100 back. A seven-time world champion, Peirsol won three gold medals at the Athens Olympics.

Bob Bruce, the 2003 United States Masters Swimming Coach of the Year, tops off the USMS NIKE Swim Clinic weekend with a six-hour clinic program on Sunday morning, October 16 at the Bozeman Swim Center. Bruce will present the hydrodynamics and biomechanics of swimming and provide individual underwater videotaping and group analysis of two of each attendee's favorite swim strokes.

Bruce was the USA Head Coach for the FINA Masters World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2002 and Riccione, Italy in 2004. Currently, Bruce serves as the Head Coach of the USMS High Altitude Training Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and Chair of the USMS Coaches Committee.

Participants may enter the USMS NIKE Swim Clinic programs as an active "in water" swimmer to obtain the full benefit of this swim technique instruction or as an "on deck" spectator in the gallery. A dinner buffet for clinic swimmers, spectators, spouses or dates is planned for Saturday night.

A full "in water" swimmer package for this adult mini-swim camp weekend, including both clinic programs and dinner buffet, is available for $70 for Bozeman Masters Swim Team members and $85 for nonmembers before October 1, and thereafter for $105. A corresponding "on deck" spectator package is available for $45.

The clinic programs and dinner may be purchased as a package or separately, starting as low as $10 for "on deck" spectator seating on Sunday. Participants must be eighteen years of age or older. Reservations are limited and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
