Zubkov Gets Six-Year Suspension from FINA

MELBOURNE, Australia, March 30. AFTER a second hearing into the physical incident between Ukrainian coach Mykhaylo Zubkov and his daughter, Kateryna, the FINA Disciplinary Panel found Zubkov guilty of violating the FINA Code of Conduct and bringing disrepute to the sport in accordance with the FINA Constitution.

Eligible to be warned, fined, suspended or expelled by FINA, Zubkov has been suspended for six years by the Disciplinary Panel. The decision was weighed after the compilation of evidence and the presentation of a defense by Zubkov's lawyers. He cannot apply to be readmitted to FINA for a minimum of six years, although he has the option of appealing the decision.

Zubkov's suspension came about after the Nine Network in Australia broadcast an altercation with his daughter in which the two had physical contact. It turned out that Zubkov objected to his daughter continuing to see her boyfriend, obviously a feeling she did not share. The incident ended with Zubkov, at one point trying to console his daughter, sitting on her.
