YMCA Short Course Nationals: Sarasota Claims Combined Team Title; Hali Flickinger Bests YMCA Standard

GREENSBORO, North Carolina, April 5. THE 2012 YMCA Short Course Nationals came to a close with Sarasota holding on to win the combined team title over Middle Tyger. Meanwhile, York's Hali Flickinger shot down her YMCA mark in the women's 200 fly.

Sarasota topped the combined team title race with 1019 points, while Middle Tyger took second with 884 points. York (807), Lakeland Hills (580.5) and Somerset Hills (536) rounded out the top five. Upper Main Line (534), Schroeder (466), Triangle Area (460.5), Wilton Family (448) and Somerset Valley (443) placed sixth through 10th. Middle Tyger won the women's race with 605 points against Sarasota's 600, while Sarasota topped Lakeland Hills, 419-362.5, in the men's race.

York's Hali Flickinger clipped her YMCA record in the women's 200 fly with a 1:56.52. That swim eclipsed the 1:56.70 she set a year ago. Greater Flint's Courtney Weaver finished a distant second in 1:59.96 after posting a 1:59.79 during prelims. Waynesboro's Remedy Rule clocked a third-place 2:00.18.

Wyckoff's Leo Lim claimed the men's 200 fly title in 1:46.93, while Edwardsville's Drew May touched a distant second in 1:49.24. Countryside's Ian Wooley wound up third in 1:49.97.

Sarasota's Danielle Valley won the women's 1650 free in 16:19.10, while Macomb's Marah Pugh placed second in 16:26.76. ME Lyons' Shaylynn Spelman posted a third-place 16:33.55. York's Noah Martin topped the men's 1650 free in 15:12.12, while Sarasota's Derek Pridemore touched second in 15:15.26. Sarasota's Andy Watts claimed third in 15:36.91.

New Canaan's K.C. Moss won the women's 100 breast in 1:02.97, while Boise City's Maddie Eyolfson took second in 1:03.79. Somerset Valley's Rachel Stoddard clinched third in 1:03.80. Door County's Connor McHugh posted a 55.40 to win the men's 100 breast. Wilton's Eric Ronda clocked a 55.79 for second, while Green Bay's John Bushman placed third in 55.82.

Middle Tyger's Katrina Konopka, Haley Lips, Ali Snover and Kendall Crawford just missed the YMCA record in the women's 200 free relay with a 1:33.63. YOTA's 2006 standard of 1:33.26 remained in play for next year's group of swimmers. Edwardsville's Maddie Monroe, Katie Kuhl, Jennifer Deist and Lori Lynn finished second in 1:33.83, while Upper Main Line's Shannon Rauth, Molly O'Brien, Maddie Zimmerman and Abby Mack took third in 1:34.33.

YOTA's Joe Bonk, Colin Ellington, Alex Mathews and Macon Crowder topped the men's 200 free relay in 1:23.20. Upper Main Line's Nic Graesser, Michael Ashmead, Jimmy Ryan and Matt Luminais took second in 1:23.74, while Somerset Valley's Brad Zdroik, Jesse Novak, Andrew Nesbitt and David Chung placed third in 1:24.33.

York's Sada Stewart, Meghan Small, Hali Flickinger and Niki Price captured the women's 400 medley relay in 3:43.47. Middle Tyger's Kendall Crawford, Lauryl Williams, Haley Lips and Katrina Konopka finished second in 3:43.95, while Sarasota's Ashlee Linn, Bethany Leap, Grace DiMeo and Sophie Cattermole took third in 3:44.02.

Upper Main Line's Nic Graesser, Louis Seefeld, Alex Schon and Matt Luminais claimed the men's 400 medley relay in 3:22.05. Somerset Valley's Dylan Sali, Victor Luo, Jeffrey Donovin and Brad Zdroik took second in 3:22.41. Lakeland Hills' Luke Papendick, Brendan Crystal, Loring Bowen and Garrett Pullis wound up third in 3:22.57 in an exciting finish.
