YMCA Nationals Results: Emily Slabe Wins 100 Back, Misses National Record

GREENSBORO, North Carolina, April 2. EMILY Slabe chopped three tenths of a second off the YMCA national record in the prelims of the women’s 100 back, and she had enough left to win the title in the final. Countryside’s Slabe clocked 53.48 for the win after establishing the new national mark of 53.27 in prelims. That broke Marie Chamberlain’s record of 53.56 from last year. Slabe had to work hard in the final to hang on for the win, though, as York’s Meghan Small out-split her, 27.30 to 27.87, on the final 50, but Small had to settle for second in 53.68. Schroeder’s Ashlyn Schoof took third in 54.06, while Cape Cod’s Chamberlain settled for fourth, clocking 54.10.
