YMCA Long Course Nationals: Penultimate Day Features Three More Records

ATLANTA, Georgia, July 28. THE fourth of five days of the YMCA Long Course Nationals featured ten more events, eight individual and two relays. The meet is taking place at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. National records fell in two of those individual events and one relay race.

Middle Tyger's David Ingraham earned his second win of the weekend in the men's 400 IM. After winning the 100 fly on Wednesday, Ingraham clocked 4:27.27 for this win, crushing the former national record of 4:32.23 that Joey Faltraco set in 1997. Lancaster's Christopher DePietro touched second in 4:32.74, while Somerset Hills' Stephen Raynes picked up third in 4:32.81.

Countryside's Steven Zimmerman matched Ingraham in winning the 200 back, after already winning the 100 back. Once again, Zimmerman clocked a national record time of 2:01.33 to beat Patrick Schirk's 2:01.69 from 2005. Anne Arundel's Dylan Davis touched in 2:06.29 for second, while Kishwaukee's Grant Alef came in third at 2:07.46.

Greater Holyoke's Meriza Werenski grabbed the win in the women's 400 IM in 4:57.09, while Middle Tyger's Amanda McNulty edged North Shore's Megan Alexander, 5:02.71 to 5;02.98. Countryside's Emily Slabe touched first in the women's 200 back in 2:17.93, while Licking's Sydney King took second in a tight finish over Middle Tyger's Ali Gayler. King clocked 2:20.70, to Gayler's 2:20.82.

Three swimmers clocked swims in the 57 second range for the women's 100 free, as Middle Tyger's Katrina Konopka won in 57.25, followed by Wilton's Madeline Smart in 57.51 and Suncoast's Kelsey Buckley in 57.58. New Canaan's Jack Forese hit the wall first in the men's 100 free. Forese clocked 51.74 to beat Cheshire's Connor Maher into second, as Maher checked in at 52.18. Laurel Highlands' Lucas Bureau touched third in 52.75.

Greater Flint's Courtney Weaver grabbed first in the women's 50 fly in 28.05. Upper Main Line's Maddie Zimmerman touched second in 28.35, and Brandywine's Elise Lankiewicz picked up third in 28.56. Mon Valley's Eric Forrester won the men's 50 fly in 25.54, while Red Bank's Joseph Connors touched out Fayette's Joshua Nordike for runner-up honors, 25.86 to 25.87.

Wilton's Madeline Smart, Verity Abel, Caitlin Cole, and Katy Luchansky won the women's 800 free relay in 8:33.48, while the men from Middle Tyger put an exclamation point on the night with a new national record in the men's relay. Ingraham, Justin Mehl, Robert Borowicz, and Jared Kauffman combined to clock 7:45.59 for the new record, beating Upper Main Line's two year old mark of 7:49.21.
