YMCA Long Course Nationals: Four YMCA Records Fall

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, July 27. THE second night of swimming at the YMCA Long Course Nationals produced four YMCA records.

Countryside's Steven Zimmerman topped the men's 100 back in 56.38. That performance broke the Y national record in the event of 56.63 set by Patrick Schirk back in 2005. Bath Area's James Wells touched second in 56.92, while Middle Tyger's Jay Warner took home third in 58.46.

Wilton's Shelby Fortin downed the second Y national record mark of the night with a 4:19.65 in the women's 400 free. That time cleared the 4:19.91 set by Caroline Smith in 2007. Countryside's Breann McDowell placed second in 4:25.51, while West Shore's Madeline Hoch, 15, clinched third in 4:27.08.

Wilton's Emily Weir eclipsed the Y national record in the women's 50 breast with a 32.78 in prelims, then settled for a 32.97 to claim the title in the evening. Lauren Brick owned the previous record with a 33.03 from 2003. Rappahannock's Kayla Brumbaum, 15, placed second in 33.10, while Somerset Hills' Jenelle Zee took third in 33.44.

Elkins' Tim Squires became the fastest man ever at the Y long course nationals with a 23.15 in the men's 50 free. That effort erased the Y mark of 23.52 set by Jeffrey Sudbury back in 2004. Pottstown's John Hauser finished second in 23.74, while New Canaan's Jack Forese pocketed third in 23.78.

Middle Tyger's Danielle Galyer, 14, touched out Cheshire's Justine Ress, 1:04.07 to 1:04.22, in the women's 100 back. Emily O'Neill of West Monmouth finished third in 1:05.78.

Wilton's Robby Harder took the men's 400 free title in 4:06.47, while South Family's Ty Perkins finished second in 4:08.14. Hickory's Graham Williams earned third in 4:08.34, while Wilton's Spencer Scarth just missed the podium with a fourth-place 4:08.48.

Glens Falls' Andrew Guinther cleared 30 seconds in the men's 50 breast with a winning 29.79, while East Hartford's Zach Auclair touched second in 30.21. Red Bank's Harrison Cefalo wound up third in 30.35.

Middle Tyger's Caroline Fore won the women's 200 IM in 2:21.35, while Wilton's Shannon Ahearn took second in 2:22.29. Greater Flint's Courtney Weaver, 14, snagged third in 2:22.56. Notably, Suncoast's Kelsey Buckley won the B final in 2:22.26.

Upper Main Line's Matthew Salig clinched the men's 200 IM in 2:06.61, while Hauser placed just behind with a second-place 2:06.85 for his second podium of the night. West North Carolina's Nathan Hart picked up third in 2:07.39.

Anne Arundel's Emily Lloyd captured the women's 50 free crown in 25.82, just missing her Y standard of 25.74 set a year ago. Upper Main Line's Shannon Rauth, 14, placed second in 26.24, while Stevens Point's Becca Weiland finished third in 26.57.

Wilton Family's Shelby Fortin, Emily Weir, Alyssa LaFrenierre and Katy Luchansky topped the women's 200 medley relay in 2:00.41, while Wilton Family's Adam Lebovitz, Eric Ronda, Edward Becker and Derrian Duryea claimed the men's 200 medley relay in 1:48.06.
