Xavier vs. Miami-Ohio (Men)

OXFORD, Ohio, October 25. MIAMI University's men's swimming and diving team took top times in nine of the fourteen events, leading the RedHawks to a 148-112 victory against Xavier on Saturday.

Darin Smith finished first in a time of 1:54.60 with Matt Grubb finishing second in a time of 1:56.38 in the 200-yard backstroke. Brendan Melling was the first to touch the wall in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 1:45.12. Miami's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Chris Gunnels, Zac Siegel, Lenny Wanta and Jason Hass finished in a time of 3:11.69, putting the team in first place. Gunnels also had a top time in the 1000-yard freestyle, clocking 9:55.25.

Michael Carroll had first-place finishes in both the 100-yard breaststroke (0:59.30) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.71). Andy Neff finished with top times in the 50-yard freestyle (0:21.49) and the 100-yard butterfly (0:51.83). Melling also took the top time in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 4:45.17.

The RedHawks are now 2-0 and host the Purdue Boilermakers on Friday, Oct.31at the Nixon Aquatic Center at 5 p.m.
