Twenty-One World Records at FINA World Championships, USA Zero Individual WR

DOHA- Overall, 21 different events finished the FINA World Short Course Championships with world records in what proved to be a strong meet overall in Doha, Qatar.

While Ryan Lochte became the first person to ever win gold in six straight short course world championships, and Team USA won the 2014 Team of the Meet honor, the most surprising stat from Doha is that the U.S. was blanked in individual gold for the first time ever.

The closest the Stars and Stripes ever came to this was in 1995 when Misty Hyman managed to win the 100 back with a 1:00.21 to 1:00.25 victory against Denmark’s Mette Jacobsen.

Meanwhile, Katinka Hosszu and Chad le Clos were named Swimmers of the Meet by FINA when all was said and done.

Great jon, Jason!

And let us NOT forget which Americans were NOT present in Doha this week (not denigrating those Yanks who were, just noting no Phelps/Franklin/Adrian et al)

Come next summer @ Kazan look for a decidedly different podium.
