World Championships: U.S. Women Thump Cuba in Second Round of Water Polo Competition

MONTREAL, Canada, July 23. A quick start, aided by a pair of early goals from Kelly Rulon, carried the United States women to a 14-3 drubbing of Cuba on Saturday, during second-round play at the World Water Polo Championships. The win moved the American ladies into the quarterfinals, where they will play Australia on Monday.

Rulon scored twice in the opening two minutes of action and the United States kept Cuba off the scoreboard through the first three quarters. Brenda Villa, the team captain, registered a hat trick, as did Moriah Van Norman. While the women moved into the quarterfinal round, the U.S. men will play Italy on Sunday in a second-round contest.
