NEW YORK – The accomplishments of women at the 1996 Olympic Games have inspired the Women’s Global Challenge, an international sports competition that will feature top female athletes in 8 sports. The Challenge debuts April 28-May 2, 1999, as the first multisport international platform showcasing women’s sports. Athletes will compete in basketball, beach volleyball, diving, figure skating, gymnastics, track and field, soccer and . Organizers hope the event will raise more than $2.3 million for girls’ sports programs internationally.
