Wisconsin, Wisconsin-Milwaukee Tangle with Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa, October 13. THE University of Iowa men and women's swimming and diving team opened their regular season at home Friday night with a double-dual against the University of Wisconsin Badgers and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers. Half the events for the meet were run Friday night, with the Hawkeyes on both sides of the scoreboard. The Hawkeye men are leading the Panthers 137-66, but trail the Badgers 134-69. The Hawkeye women lead the Panthers 149-56, and trail the Badgers 159.5-44.5.

The Hawkeye men were led by sophomore Nick Divan, who won the 1,000 yard freestyle (9:33.65) and placed fourth in the 200 individual medley (1:57.36). Junior Dragos Agache took home first in the 100 breaststroke in 57.34. Freshman Frank Van Dijkhuizen won both the men's one- and three-meter diving. His one-meter score of 283.00 topped teammate Michael Gilligan's score of 262.40. Van Dijkhuizen's score of 322.90 in the three-meter was well ahead of Gilligan's 238.10; the two placed first and second in both events.

Senior Emmy Haeger led the Hawkeye women with a second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:05.83), and was on the 200 yard medley relay team that also placed second (1:48.08). Sophomore Ashley Dell picked up a second place in the 1,000 yard freestyle (10:16.48) for the Hawkeyes. Freshman Deidre Freeman won the women's one-meter diving with 238.50, and teammate sophomore Meghan Sievertsen placed fourth in the three-meter at 179.65.

The teams will continue the double-dual at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the University of Iowa Fieldhouse Pool.
