Wisconsin Girls Division I, II High School State Championships

MADISON, Wisconsin, November 16. ARROWHEAD and Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol walked away with state titles at the Wisconsin Girls High School State Championships. The Arrowhead girls tallied 303 points for first at the Division I meet while Madison East took second (181) and Waukesha South/ Mukwonago placed third (167.5). At the Division II meet, Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol scored 201 points for first followed by DeForest (186) and Whitefish Bay (179.5).

Division I Results
Arrowhead won two of three relays. Kate Jones, Caryn Knight, Emma Goral, and Haley Pietila clocked a time of 1:45.48 in the 200 medley for a first-place finish. Goral also won the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.27.

Jackie Powell (Madison Memorial) took first in the 200 (1:49.90) and 100 (50.82) freestyles.

Madison East's Aja Van Hout was a dual event winner in the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle (4:51.77). She set a state record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.06. The previous record (2:01.39) was set by Arrowhead's Andrea Boritzke in 2004.

Goral teamed up with Katie Duranso, Holly Johnson, and Julia Mikota for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:37.01).

Kylie Rosenstock of Madison West won the diving competition with a score of 475.60. Other top finishers include Middleton's Lauren Callin (436.10) and Eau Claire Memorial's Sara Axness (398.05).

Junior Ivy Martin (Madison East) won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.55. She teamed up with Van Hout, Chelsea Soderholm, and Becca Soderholm for a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:28.65).

Division II Results
Whitefish Bay won two of three relays. Elissa Maercklein, Annie Maercklein, Annelise Sprau, and Maggie Smith won the 200 medley relay (1:48.47).

Kelsey Hojan-Clark (Brookfield Academy) set state records in the 200 (1:49.13) and 500 (4:50.19) freestyles. The previous records (1:49.94, 4:53.94) were set by Shorewood's Jamie Belfor in 1996.

Kristin Capcik (Milwaukee Luther) won the diving competition with a score of 425.00. Rachel Stave of Whitnall and Molly McElligott of Grafton followed with scores of 419.90 and 384.40, respectively.

Freshman Savanna Townsend (Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol) won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.86. She teamed up with Sierra Townsend, Michaela Rabas, and McKenzie Trelka in the 200 freestyle relay. The girls set a state record with a time of 1:36.02. The previous record (1:38.95) was set last year by Monona Grove (K. Millin, T. Becker, E. Emmerich, and H. Martin).

Sauk Prairie's Alison Meng had individual wins in the 100 butterfly (57.06) and the 100 backstroke (57.19).

Lauren VanLoon, E. Maercklein, A. Maercklein, and Smith closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:34.61).
