Wingate’s Sofia Petrenko Claims NCAA D2 Mark in 200 Fly

Wingate’s Sofia Petrenko dropped more than two seconds from her prelim swim to win the women’s 200-yard fly at the 2016 NCAA Division II Championships in 1:57.94. The junior broke the NCAA D II record of 1:58.84 set by IUP’s Jaclyn Hinson in 2012. Petrenko has had a busy weekend so far, taking third in the 200 IM, second in the 400 IM, ninth in the 200 free, and she anchored Wingate’s winning 400 medley relay.

UC-San Diego’s Darielle Watkins took second in 1:58.60 and LIU Post’s Joyce Kwok finished third in 1:59.14.

Queens’ Mckenzie Stevens (1:59.92), Lindenwood’s Hannah Vinyard (2:00.50), Queens’ Josephina Lorda (2:02.54), Simon Fraser’s Lauren Swistak (2:02.97), and Jewell’s Christina Meredith (2:05.63) completed the top eight.
