Williamson Earns Second Mid-Continent Conference Athlete of Week Award

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, November 28. THE Mid-Continent Conference has announced that IUPUI swimmer Taylor Williamson (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) has been selected Mid-Con Athlete of the Week, per IUPUI reports.

This is the second time this season that Williamson has been honored with Athlete of the Week recognition. It also marked the fourth straight week that an IUPUI swimmer or diver has earned the award.

In a three team double dual meet with Miami (Ohio) and Xavier on Saturday, Williamson added two more school records to his already impressive resume. The 5-foot-9 freshman now owns four school records. He also won two individual races and finished second in a third race in the meet.

In the 1000 freestyle, Williamson finished second but broke the school record in the event that was set last season by current Jaguar Brian Wheeler. His time of 9:52.33 was 2.17 seconds better than the old record and is the best time in the event in the Mid-Con this year.

He also broke the school record in winning the 200 butterfly. Williamson’s time of 1:56.06 was the quickest in the league this season. It was also 1.76 seconds better than the nearly four-year-old record that was set on Dec. 1, 2000 by former Jaguar Brian Helton (1998-2002).

Williamson also won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:58.23, the eighth-best time in school history in the event.
