Westminster Swimming Teams Name Four Team Captains for 2003-04 Season

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – THE Westminster College men's & women's swimming program has selected four captains for the 2003-04 season. Sophomores Andy Hudak (Berea, OH/Berea H.S.) and Buddy Thornton (Gibsonia/Deer Lakes H.S.) are the men's team captains, while seniors Tawnya Brown (Murrysville/Franklin Regional H.S.) and Brittany Jardine (Allison Park/North Allegheny H.S.) were tabbed to lead the women's team.

Hudak is a freestyle/breaststroke specialist who was a member Westminster's 800 freestyle relay team which captured the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) title a year ago. He also placed fifth in the 500 freestyle, sixth in the 200 breaststroke, and eighth in the 100 breaststroke at the PAC meet. A 3-2 engineering major, he plans to be a civil engineer and be involved with construction management following graduation.

Thornton is a backstroke specialist who earned All-PAC honors in the 200 backstroke while also placing sixth in the 100 backstroke at the conference meet last year. A public relations major, he plans to pursue a career as a public relations representative following graduation.

Brown is a sprint freestyle specialist who is a three-year letter winner, two-time All-PAC honoree and three-time member of the Dean's List. A biology major, she plans to teach biology at the high school level following graduation.

Jardine, a butterfly/freestyle specialist, was named Team MVP in 2001-02 and captured PAC Championships last season. A CSCAA Academic All-American, she is an NCAA qualifier and All-American and a school record-holder. A public relations major, she plans to pursue a career in athletic public relations following graduation.

Led by 19th-year head coach Rob Klamut, the Westminster men's and women's swimming teams open the 2003-04 season tomorrow (Sat., Oct. 25) at the Clarion Fall Classic in Clarion, Pa., at 10 a.m.
