Swimming World had the chance to talk with Gregg Parini and Jon Howell at the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.

Parini’s Denison men’s team won their second title in three years and their fourth in eight years. Their impressive depth propelled them to the team title as they only won the 800 free relay, as well as Bebe Wang‘s 200 back and Kymani Senior’s 100 fly.

Parini’s women’s team finished in fourth and also had a national record from sophomore KT Kustritz in the 100 breast, as she became the first woman in Division III to break a minute in the event.

Jon Howell’s Emory women’s team have not lost at the NCAA Championships since 2009 and continued that tradition in 2018, winning three relays and getting individual wins from Fiona Muir and Cindy Cheng. Howell talks the tradition of winning the women’s meet as well as how he thought the relays did.

Howell’s men’s team finished in second and won four of the five relays in the meet. The men actually won more individual events than the women with Tom Gordon, Oliver Smith each winning two events, with Gordon winning the distance events and Smith taking out the sprints. Sage Ono also won the 100 back final for the Eagles.
