Washington vs. Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pennsylvania, February 12. HOST Swarthmore College defeated visiting Washington College, 123-82, in Centennial Conference men's swimming action in Swarthmore, PA. Freshman Nick Longworth (Media, PA/Strath Haven) won two individual events in the loss for the Shoremen (6-5, 2-4 Centennial).

Longworth captured the 200 freestyle in a Washington College season-best time of 1:49.95 and the 200 backstroke in 2:01.33. Senior Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) won the 500 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 5:04.95 and finished second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:36.95. Junior Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military) finished first in the 200 butterfly in 2:05.00.

Longworth, freshman Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley), Pollock, and junior Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) won the 400 medley relay in 3:45.14. Auger was also second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:22.56, while sophomore Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook) took second in the 200 backstroke in 2:03.99.

Host Swarthmore College edged out visiting Washington College, 105.5-99.5, in Centennial Conference women's swimming action tonight in Swarthmore, PA. Sophomore Rachel Glasser (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) won three individual events for the Shorewomen (10-4, 3-4 Centennial) in the loss.

Glasser won the 200 butterfly in a Washington College season-best time of 2:09.77, the 200 freestyle in 2:00.60, and the 500 freestyle in 5:21.81. Junior Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) won the 50 freestyle in 25.69 and the 100 freestyle in 56.62. Senior Kimber Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) added a first-place finish in the 200 backstroke in a WC season-best time of 2:20.10.

Shoemaker, freshman Jenna Moore (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales Academy), Gerhart, and freshman Mary Stroman (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Friends Central) finished first in the 400 medley relay in 4:12.50.

Freshman Kelly Dunbar (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) was second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:37.93, while freshman Morgan Phillips (Charlottesville, VA/Albermarle) placed second in the 200 backstroke in 2:22.66.
