Washington College vs. Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pennsylvania, November 5. FRESHMAN Greg Lee (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) won the 200 butterfly and became the Shoremen's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in that event, but the Washington College men's swim team dropped its season opener to host Gettysburg, 132-67, this afternoon in a Centennial Conference meet.

Lee's winning time in the 200 butterfly was 2:03.63. Fellow freshman Austin Yocum (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) finished third in the 200 freestyle in 1:51.80 and in the 500 freestyle in 5:15.62.

Gettysburg entered the final two events as exhibition entrants only. Washington senior Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley) recorded the first-place points in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:24.07, while Lee, freshman Steven Nilinski (Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven), freshman James Ray (Timonium, MD/Towson), and freshman Spencer Kelley (Weston, CT/Weston) picked up the first-place points in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing in 3:55.64.

The Shoremen (0-1, 0-1 Centennial) return to action Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. non-conference home meet against Salisbury.

Sophomore Elizabeth Miskiel (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) won two individual events, but the Washington College women's swim team fell to host Gettysburg, 130-62, in a Centennial Conference meet this afternoon.

Miskiel won the 100 freestyle in 56.42 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.54. Freshman Ashley Maurizi (Reamstown, PA/Cocalico) added a third-place finish in the 1000 freestyle in 11:53.77, while sophomore Samantha Gross(Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) placed third in the 200 butterfly in 2:46.77.

Gettysburg entered the final two events as exhibition entrants only. Washington's 400 freestyle relay team of senior Morgan Phillips (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle), sophomore Hilary Badger (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales), Maurizi, and junior Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest)picked up the first-place points in the meet's final event, finishing in 3:55.64.

The Shorewomen (1-1, 1-1 Centennial) return to action Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. non-conference home meet against Salisbury.
