Washington 3A Girls High School State Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, November 17. KENNEDY walked away with the state title at the Washington 3A Girls High School State Championships, scoring 310 points. Juanita and Mercer Island fought for second place, with Juanita coming out on top by four points (225).

Kennedy took two of three relays, starting the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Nikki Vetterlein, Allie Vetterlein, Gabby Lindblad, and Mariah Crockett finished in 1:47.88.

Five-star recruit in Swimming World's College Recruit rankings powered by Take Your Marks, Lindsey Marchand (Peninsula), won the 100 butterfly (53.55) and the 100 breaststroke (1:02.00), earning personal bests in each. Marchand has made a verbal commitment to UCLA.

Mount Rainer's Leona Jennings took control of her events, winning the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. She finished in 22.92 and 53.66 respectively.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Haley Gansneder, Mackenzie Marrs, Molly Larson, and Jennings took first with a time of 1:38.26.

Rachel Godfred (Mercer Island) had first-place honors in the 200 IM (2:04.59). It was a tight race between her and Juanita's Kelly Tannhauser in the 500 freestyle. Godfred won by merely .06 seconds (4:55.19).

Diana Wilcox of Bellevue won the diving competition with a score of 418.95.

Amanda Thach, Emily Fenster, N. Vetterlein, and A. Vetterlein combined to close the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle (3:32.41).
