Washington 3A Boys High School State Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, March 4. AT the Washington 3A Boys High School State Championships, Mercer Island secured the state title with a score of 475 points. Mt. Rainier took second (208) and Seattle Prep placed third (183).

Individual Results
Mercer Island won all three relays. Alexander Hoff, Andy Wingerson, Murray Longbotham, and Ian Fisk set a state record in the 200 medley relay (1:34.25). The previous record was held by Wilson High School for almost 20 years. Longbotham also won the 100 butterfly (50.82).

Beau Riebe (Mercer Island) won the diving competition with a score of 445.75, while Troy Neklason (Highline) took second (406.90) and Travis King (Peninsula) finished third (353.90).

Etha Hallowell (Eastside Catholic) won the sprint races. He finished with times of 20.58 in the 50 freestyle and 45.26 in the 100 freestyle.
Junior Mac Lowry (Mt. Rainier) took first in the 500 freestyle (4:36.98). He also touched out Longbotham in the 200 freestyle by .01 seconds for a first-place finishing time of 1:40.37.

Kyle Schaeffer, Will Voit, Duncan Howard, and Fisk won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.71.

Owen Wurzbacher (Lakeside) set a meet record in the 200 IM (1:50.26). He also won the 100 breaststroke (55.59).

Alexander Hoff (Mercer Island) won the 100 backstroke (49.79). He teamed up with Longbotham, Schaeffer, and Tyler Benster to set a state record in the 400 freestyle relay (3:06.71).
