Wang Haibo Highlights Chinese Nationals with Record in 50 Breast

HARBIN, China, April 22. ON the penultimate night of the Chinese Spring Nationals, held Thursday, Wang Haibo established a national record in the 50-meter breaststroke. Already the winner of the 100 breast, Wang clocked 28.31 for the one-lap sprint to earn a trip to the World Championships. The former record stood at 28.37, set by Zeng Qiliang in 2003.

Adding to her championship in the 400 freestyle, Yang Jieqiao took top honors in the 1,500 free, as she clocked 16:24.57, ahead of the 16:30.45 that Chen Hua produced for a second-place showing.

In the women’s 100 backstroke, Hou Xianmin bested the field with a swim of 1:01.77, swifter than the 1:02.04 turned in by Chen Yanyan. Other triumphs were recorded by Xu Yanwei in the women’s 100 butterfly (59.37) and Huang Changrui in the men’s 50 fly (24.75). Guangdong set a national record in the men's 400 medley relay (3:41.90).
