Walker Honored as PL Female Swimmer of the Week

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. January, 24. COLGATE freshman Beverly Walker (Marietta, Ga.) has been honored as the Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday, Jan. 24. Last week, Walker broke four freshman records as she helped Colgate to three wins in dual-meet action with 64 points.

Walker finished either first or second in all 12 of her events last week, including eight wins. She set at least one freshman record in each meet, breaking the 100 back and 100 fly standards against Bucknell, the 200 fly mark versus Lafayette, and the 200 back record against Cornell. In the 100 back, Walker swam the second-fastest time ever by a Raider as she beat defending Patriot League champion Lectie Altman of Bucknell. In the 200 fly, she posted the fifth-fastest time in school history as she shattered a freshman record that was set 24 years ago. Walker’s time in the 100 fly ranks third all-time at Colgate, and her 200 back time ranks eighth.

In relay action, Walker swam the lead-off leg of the 200 medley relay that posted the third-fastest time ever at Colgate and broke the Lineberry Natatorium record against Bucknell. Versus Lafayette, she swam in the 200 free relay that exhibitioned with the second-fastest time in Raider history. Walker was also part of a 400 free relay that exhibitioned against Bucknell and finished with a time that ranks fifth on Colgate’s all-time list.

The Raider women concluded their first-ever undefeated dual-meet season against Patriot League teams and an undefeated home schedule. Colgate beat three-time defending league champ Bucknell for the first time in 21 years, Lafayette to complete the league sweep, and Central New York rival Cornell for the first time in 24 years.

Colgate concludes its dual-meet schedule at Binghamton on Saturday, Jan. 28, starting at 1:00 p.m.
