Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium To Be Restored

From www.usawaterpolo.com
Honolulu Mayor Jeremy Harris announced the signing of the restoration contract for the Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium. This 100 by 40 meter salt water pool was opened on August 24, 1927 by Duke Kahanamoku, his thirtieth birthday. Duke swum the first 100 meter lap to the applause of a crowd of 2000. The AAU Nationals followed that day. Maintenance of the pool was minimal over the last 72 years.

The restoration is expected to take 12 months. The marine construction firm Healy Tibbits has been awarded the $11 million contract.
