Wagner Leads Saint Francis and Sacred Heart After Day One of Central Connecticut State Invite

NEW BRITAIN, Connecticut, October 13. THE Wagner swim team has come out strong in its first day of competition in their 2007-2008 season as they lead Saint Francis University and Sacred Heart University after day one of the Central Connecticut State Invitational.

Things started off hot for the Seahawks with 2nd place finish in the 200 yard free relay. Event two brought freshman Caitlin Moore-Penaskovic (Dover, NH) came in seventh in her first collegiate race in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:19.23. Senior Heather Roman-Green (Woodstock, NY/Kingston) followed Moore-Penaskovic, finishing ninth in at 2:19.66.

Junior Alexandra Thomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) kept things moving with a first place finish in the 500 yard free with a time of 5:10.10 while junior Colleen Bowman (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) placed third at 5:19.37 and Moore-Penaskovic finished 17th in 5:41.40.

Event four brought together senior Jess Radka (Reading, PA/Holy Name) and sophomore Jessica Hart (Summerfield, NC/Northwest) with fourth and fifth finishes in the 200 yard fly, finishing 2:12.67 and 2:13.70 respectively. In the 500 yard breast-stroke, sophomore Melanie Rodriguez-Lapman (Chesire, CT/Chesire) finished in third with a time of 2:34.58 while freshman Bethany Brown (Endfield, CT) placed sixth at 2:37.20.

Wagner finishes out the CCSU Invitational on Sunday, October 14th.
