Volkers May Pursue Charges Against the 3 Women Who Falsely Accused Him of Sexual Misconduct

BRISBANE, Sept. 19. SCOTT Volkers, the Australian Olympic coach who was falsely accused of sexual misconduct with three teenage girls more than 15 years ago, is planning to file for damages against his three accusers, his defense aattorney said today.

He is expected to file civil charges for defamation of character. It is unclear whether criminal charges will be pursued against the women for having falsely accused the renowned, 43 year-old coach.

Volkers' lawyer described one of the women as having "a lengthy psychiatric history."

In other news on the Volkers case, the Brisbane Courier Mail reported that Director of Public Prosecutions, Leanne Clare, refused to apologize to Volkers for the months of agony he underwent as a result of the accusations.

"There is nothing to apologize about in respect to the prosecution by my office," Ms Clare said. It was her office that contacted the three women yesterday to tell them the DPP was not proceeding with the charges.

"It was a prosecution conducted straight down the line. Serious allegations were made and were treated seriously and objectively and we followed through with further investigation when it became apparent there was new evidence.

"We made disclosures relating to the charges and without a crystal ball, there's nothing we could have done differently."

Meanwhile, Volkers is taking a much needed holiday with his family and was not talking to the press.
