Virginia’s Lewis Named ACC Swimmer of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. February, 8. UNIVERSITY of Virginia second-year Jess Lewis (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week as announced Monday (Feb. 6). Lewis captured the award after winning a pair of individual events as well as a relay win in UVa's 124-84 triumph over Maryland (Feb. 4) in College Park, Md.

Lewis posted a pair of individual event wins with season-best times. The freestyler turned in a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 100 free, touching first in 50.67. Lewis also picked up a win in the 200 free, clocking a time of 1:50.58 to shave nearly two seconds off her previous best time of the season. She also swam the anchor leg on Virginia's 400 free relay team, which turned in a winning exhibition time of 3:25.03.

The 18th-ranked Cavaliers concluded their dual meet season with a 6-3 overall record and a 5-0 mark in the ACC.

Virginia returns to action Feb. 15-18 when it competes in the 2006 ACC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in College Park, Md. Finals each day will begin at 7:00 p.m., while prelims the final three days commence at 11:00 a.m.
