The 2018 Big East Swimming and Diving Championships are set to begin on Wednesday evening and will continue through Saturday as Butler, Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall, Villanova, and Xavier compete to see who will take home this year’s title.

The seven-session championships will run from February 21-24, taking place at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Prelims Thursday through Saturday begin at 10am EST, while finals will kick off at 6pm EST.

The Villanova women are looking to take home their fifth consecutive Big East championship title, while the Wildcat men will be aiming to improve their fourth-place finish from last year. The Seton Hall Pirates will be looking to defend their team title for the men’s championship.

From Seton Hall, junior Lior Gruber and senior Sydney Simpson will be ones to watch, having recently received Big East weekly honors for their in-season performances.

Villanova’s Caitlin Daday will be looking to take home individual honors in the women’s distance events including the 500-yard freestyle and 400-yard IM.

Looking ahead to Wednesday night, the Villanova women head into the evening session with the top seed in the 800-yard freestyle relay by 10 seconds, as well as the top seed in the 200-yard medley relay. The Seton Hall men hold the top seed in the 800-yard freestyle relay over Georgetown, while the Wildcat men are sitting atop the 200-yard medley relay field. Women 3M and men 1M diving will also occur during Wednesday evening’s session.
