Video: Victoria Toris Races For Ariz. Swimmer of Meet Honors

MESA, Arizona, November 12. PINNACLE High School got a big push toward its third-place finish at the Arizona Division I high school state swimming championships from junior Victoria Toris, who defended both of her sprint freestyles on Saturday in Mesa.

Toris started off with a 23.12 in the 50 free, beating the 23.33 she swam last year to win the title.

Not long after that win, Toris made it two-for-two with a decisive win in the 100 free with a 50.55, a little slower than the 49.87 that she posted as a sophomore last year.

With her individual swims out of the way, Toris focused her energies on helping Pinnacle win both of the freestyle relays. The team of Rosin, Whited, Fazio and Toris swam a 1:36.05 in the 200 free relay to post the only automatic All-American time of the event.

Just as she did in the 200 free relay, Toris anchored Pinnacle’s 400 free relay, beating the field by almost a second.

As the only female swimmer to take four wins, Toris was awarded the Female Swimmer of the Year in Division I competition. She talked with Swimming World’s Tiffany Elias about her day in the pool and why she was surprised about winning the honor:
