IRVINE, California, August 6. THE first thing Tyler Clary wanted to talk about when he arrived at the mixed zone Wednesday at the USA Swimming nationals is his no-show on the award stand after placing second in the 200 butterfly.

“I didn’t think they were going to do (the awards ceremony) right after the event,” Clary said. “No disrespect to anyone.”

Clary said he was surprised by Tom Shields’ ability to finish the race and win, but he was pleased with his own swim and looks forward to making adjustments ahead of the Pan Pacific championships. He’s been making some adjustments in his life, including moving to SwimMAC Carolina, and he talks about looking a little further ahead to 2016.
