IRVINE, California, August 7. FOR years, onlookers wondered when Ryan Murphy would break through the backstroke logjam in the U.S. and qualify for his first senior international team. That happened on Thursday when Murphy overtook a fading Ryan Lochte down the stretch to finish second in the men’s 200 back. Murphy spoke afterwards about how he felt to be on the team, to race Lochte and Tyler Clary, and his feelings on his time of 1:55.99.
