Really.. ” I’m still trying to learn how to swim that event”.
What ever happened to: ” I just had an off swim”.

I think it comes down to not wanting to ever put a closed end on a bad swim.

From a psychological standpoint, saying that “I just had an off swim” means that you have accepted the bad situation as it is. But, saying “I’m still trying to learn how to swim that event” is a bit of a euphemism for saying “That swim was really bad, and I’m going to work my butt off to fix it.”
