IRVINE, California, August 8. THE past few months haven’t been easy for Nick Thoman, with rehab from a shoulder injury and reduced training affecting his preparation for the USA Swimming nationals. But after placing second in the 50 backstroke, Thoman has bigger motivation for tomorrow’s 100 backstroke.

One aspect that will help Thoman is being fully shaved, and he talked about the process he’s made with his facial hair throughout the week and the mental preparation he’s made to get ready for his first race of the meet.
