KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, December 5. NICK Thoman surprised those in attendance at the USA Swimming nationals with a near-American record in the 100 backstroke leading off SwimMAC Carolina’s 400 medley relay.

In this video interview, he talks about racing short course yards for the first time in years, what he might do differently in tomorrow’s final to get Matt Grevers’ record and what it could be like racing the gentle giant tomorrow.

Thoman took some time away from the pool after winning the silver medal in the 100 back at the Olympic Games, and he talks about getting back into shape recently with a new crop of swimmers in Charlotte.
