MESA, Arizona, April 25. NATHAN Adrian’s fast swim in the 100 free at the Arena Grand Prix in Mesa, Ariz., put him in the top three in the world, and the reigning Olympic champion said he learned a lot about preparation for the swim.

Staying out of the sun and keeping cool are two things he said he didn’t do well in Mesa, but he plans to do so at nationals in Irvine in August. Other things he learned in the final were just remembering race strategy and getting out of the funk of three months of doing nothing but training.
