SANTA CLARA, California, June 23. EVEN after not swimming as fast as she wanted in the 100 backstroke final at the Arena Grand Prix in Santa Clara, Missy Franklin was all smiles in this video interview.

Franklin talked about learning new things at the recent training trip in Santa Cruz and trying to apply that to racing, which she called “exhausting.” Being a major swimming celebrity comes with added pressures, including interacting with young fans. Franklin said she continues to feel like “one of those little swimmers” at meets and appreciates the need for a security guard to serve as a buffer with the crowd when she needs to prepare to race.
