GOLD COAST, Australia, August 21. KATIE McLaughlin didn’t expect to swim a lifetime best in the 200 butterfly prelims today at the Pan Pacific championships, and shortly after her swim she talked about racing in her first senior-level international meet.

In the video player below, you’ll see McLaughlin discuss the ease of the swim and her nerves going into the race. The 17-year-old has qualified as the top seed for tonight’s final and she talks about taking the opening 100 meters a little more aggressive to help her improve on her time.
