IRVINE, California, August 9. KATIE Ledecky had a feeling a world record might be possible in the heats of the 400 freestyle at the USA Swimming nationals, and in this video interview immediately after her race, she talked about the splits she had been holding in warm-up to give her confidence.

Ledecky also said the meet announcer and the crowd’s enthusiasm helped her know that she was on a good pace. She believes the increased excitement that will come in finals will help her get Federica Pellegrini’s world record of 3:59.15.
