Pulling ahead with a dominant breaststroke split, Gunnar Bentz cruised to a National title in the men’s 400 IM. The former Dynamo Swim Club standout who now competes for the University of Georgia touched the wall in 4:14.16, a time good for 15th in the world rankings and three seconds ahead of anyone else in the field.

Bentz spoke after the race about his plan of attack heading in and shared his thoughts about his new lifetime best time. He also talked about his experience at the Pan American Games last month, which included a chance to mingle with American Olympic greats such as Natalie Coughlin and Cullen Jones.
