Vermont’s Joe Fischer Named Chair of NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Committee

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, October 7. UNIVERSITY of Vermont Associate Athletic Director Joe Fischer has been appointed Chair to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Committee.

Fischer will oversee the 10-member committee which monitors all matters related to the Division I men's and women's swimming and diving championships. The committee also plays a large role in conducting both NCAA Championships. The women's championships are slated for March 15-17 at Auburn University, while the men's swimming and diving championships will be hosted by Seattle University March 22-24 at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.

Fischer, who is in his 11th year as an administrator at UVM, was promoted to Associate Athletic Director in September of 2010. Before joining the administrative staff, Fischer served as the head men's and women's swimming and diving coach at Vermont for 19 years.

Fischer has also served on the America East Championships and Competition Committee (CCC) for 12 years and was the CCC liaison to America East Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving and Men's and Women's Tennis for nine years. He is currently the CCC liaison to men's soccer in the league.

In addition, Fischer was on the NCAA Ski Committee for three years, and was Chair of the NCAA Ski Committee for one year. He also served as the Chair of an NCAA Task Force which examined the manner in which championship berths are allocated for the NCAA Skiing Championships.

Fischer's administrative duties at Vermont include: overseeing facility operations and maintenance, facility renovation projects, event management and game operations, intercollegiate scheduling, and game officials. Fisher also chairs the department's events team and serves as a liaison to several campus units and the Vermont Lake Monsters, the minor league baseball team that uses UVM's Centennial Field as its home field.
