Vergnoux Named British Coach of the Year

EDINBURGH, Britain, October 2. FRED Vergnoux was named the BSCTA Coach of the Year at the organization's national conference for the first time over the weekend.

The award came after a spectacular year in which Kirsty Balfour won the 200 breast European Championship for the only individual British gold at the event. Kris Gilchrist also medaled at both the European and Commonwealth Games.

Loughborough Univeristy's Ian Turner took the award for Coaching Excellence after all seven of his swimmers that were squad members for the Commonwealth Games medaled in Melbourne.

The BSCTA Coach of the Year for swimmers with a Disability was Colin Hood following his work with Matthew Walker who set a 50 freestyle world record in April and swam to bronze medal success at the Commonwealth Games. Hood has also been recognized for work he has previously done with Sascha Kindred and Nyree Lewis, both multi-paralympians.

City of Liverpool's Colin Stripe was named BSCTA Youth Coach of the Year for the second time running for his work with Fran Halsall, Commonwealth and European medallist.

The Alan Hime Memorial Award for taken by Borough of Stockton coach Graeme Antwhistle for his work with Jessica Dickons.
